Nick Jonas’ family ‘saved his life’ recognizing diabetes symptoms

Taking to his 35.5 million Instagram followers, Joe Jonas‘ younger brother shared a reel of himself and his mother, Denise, explaining the four symptoms that could lead to a diagnosis.

His mother explains how Nick was “very enthusiastic and driven as a child,” so she was “alarmed” when he started showing the signs. She then admits she was in denial over the health condition.

In the caption, the 31-year-old penned: “18 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. My family, especially my Mom @mamadjonas, noticed a change in me & saw the four major signs that we now know are symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes.

“1. frequent urination, 2. excessive thirst, 3. exhaustion, 4. unexplained weight loss.”

The star then went on to write about how lucky he was to have his support system, who ultimately ‘saved his life.’

“I was lucky enough to have this incredible support system around me that noticed these signs, helped me make the decision to get checked and ultimately saved my life,” he wrote on Instagram.

“As a new father myself, I understand how important it is to be on the lookout for these signs as my daughter grows up,” he wrote.

He’s now taking part in the SeeTheSigns campaign, raising awareness about these often-missed symptoms.

The star is ‘grateful’ for his diabetes journey

Despite being diagnosed at a young age, the Jealous singer has previously admitted he was ‘grateful’ for his diabetes journey.

At the beginning of this year, after starring in a Super Bowl commercial for medical device brand Dexcom, Jonas told Rolling Stone he was in the best health he’d ever been in.

“It can still be a little overwhelming, but collectively over the past couple of years, I’m in the best health that I’ve ever been in, and really, just taking it one step at a time,” he said.

The Superbowl ad came a year after Nick and Priyanka welcomed their first baby, daughter Malti. She was born via surrogate in January 2022, as he tells his followers, he “understands how important it is to be on the lookout for these signs as my daughter grows up.”
